Old, widowed Walter invites Quinn and her mom, Dr. Lizzie, for tea. There, Lizzie meets his son, Charley, a pilot she's just hired for the hospital. Both Walter and the 50+ years younger Quinn need a friend. Lizzie and Charley, too?
Synopsis
In Savannah, former OBGYN Dr. Lizzie Beauman moved into the role of Chief Operating Officer at St. Carmen's in an effort to be a greater presence in her five year old daughter Quinn Beauman's life after Lizzie's divorce, Luke, Quinn's father, who was too unreliable a presence in their collective lives. Against her better judgment, Lizzie hires Charley Allen on a short term probation to be the hospital's new EMS helicopter pilot, that function vital in Lizzie trying to woo Dr. Stadler to choose St. Carmen's as the hospital to perform a revolutionary procedure in live tissue transplantation. Despite Charley being the most qualified candidate on paper, Lizzie was hesitant because of his "cowboy" personality, such a cavalier attitude which does not mesh well with her controlled needs of running a hospital, and Charley who has moved from job to job since he came back from military service a year ago. Lizzie eventually learns that Charley, a Savannah native, came back to town largely to assist his father, Walter Allen, the kindly old gentleman she and Quinn had befriended earlier, with his affairs following the death of Walter's wife/Charley's mother a year ago, Walter who is still grieving and two who have a strained relationship having something to do with her passing. It seems that Lizzie and Quinn meeting Walter was fate as they, especially Quinn, help Walter open back up to life, and Walter somewhat fulfills what Lizzie learns is Quinn's secret quest to find a friend. Deeper connections may form between the Beauman and Allen families if Lizzie and Charley will open their eyes to it. Not all is smooth in a happily-ever-after for the two as they have to balance their work/home lives and the differences in their outward goals.
